The Technology Transfer and Innovation Club at ITUM successfully organized a free online workshop titled “Winning International Grants: Insider Secrets” on 3rd October 2024. The event was open to ITUM staff, students, and external participants, with a special focus on academics, postgraduate students, and professionals interested in securing international research funding.

The workshop provided valuable insights into the key elements of writing winning proposals for international grants. Topics covered included:

• Identifying and aligning with funding opportunities: How to find the right grants and tailor proposals to meet funders’ objectives.
• Crafting compelling narratives and project plans: A well-structured and persuasive proposal is important.
• Presenting budgets that get approved: Strategies for creating realistic and funder-friendly budgets.
• Avoiding common proposal mistakes: How to avoid pitfalls that can lead to rejection.

The session was conducted by Dr. Ishara Dharmasena, a Senior Lecturer and RAEng Research Fellow, with expertise in securing research grants and awards. Dr. Dharmasena shared his experiences and offered tips on how to improve the chances of success in the competitive world of international research funding.
