The Technology Transfer and Innovation Club at ITUM recently organized a highly successful online workshop titled “Harnessing AI Tools for Academic and Research Excellence: A Practical Guide.” This free workshop, held on 23rd August 2024, offered valuable insights into leveraging AI tools to enhance academic and research work, and was attended by academic staff, non-academic staff, and students from ITUM and other universities.
The workshop focused on freely available AI tools designed to improve productivity, automate tasks, and streamline research efforts. Topics covered included:
AI-driven tools for literature discovery (e.g., Heuristi.ca, Connected Papers, and GetNextNet.com).
Writing assistance tools like Grammarly and QuillBot for enhancing clarity, grammar, and writing efficiency.
- Text and data mining tools, including Voyant and PowerDrill.ai, for in-depth analysis of text datasets.
- Data analysis and visualization tools such as Orange and JASP to support data-driven research.
- AI-powered plagiarism and content detection tools, ensuring academic integrity in research work.
The session also explored best practices for ethical AI use, covering aspects like plagiarism, bias, and data privacy. The workshop concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where participants could clarify doubts and discuss practical applications.
